The Challenge: Eliminating Redundant KYC Across Platforms
Users interacting with multiple FinTech and Web3 services were forced to repeat identity verification for every new platform – a process that took 15-20 minutes each time and exposed sensitive documents to dozens of separate databases. For businesses, each KYC check cost $5-15 and added days to onboarding timelines. The client needed a decentralized identity layer where users verify once and reuse credentials across platforms, while meeting KYC/AML regulations in 4+ jurisdictions with 99.8% verification accuracy.

Our Engineering Approach
We brought a team with hands-on experience in blockchain-based identity systems, compliance-driven architectures and high-load verification pipelines. Our approach combined on-chain credential storage design with cloud-native event processing, delivering verified identity primitives that scale horizontally. Core Backend Technologies Powering Kimlic
The backend is built with Elixir and Erlang to provide a highly reliable, fault-tolerant foundation for identity workflows, verification logic and API services. Event-driven communication and state changes are handled through scalable messaging patterns, while real-time processing ensures immediate, consistent updates to identity status. Deployed on AWS and Kubernetes with PostgreSQL as the primary data store, the platform is supported by a modern NextJS frontend and fully automated infrastructure managed with Terraform.

Frontend and User Interfaces
Kimlic features a modern frontend built with React and Next.js for both users and business clients. Users can manage their verified identities and consents through a secure web interface, while businesses can access dashboards and APIs to request and validate KYC proofs.

PostgreSQL stores identity metadata, verification states and audit logs at scale. All components are deployed on Kubernetes and hosted on AWS to ensure high availability, scalability and fault tolerance.
